Chennamangalam Synagogue, Ernakulam

Chennamangalam Synagogue situated in Chennamangalam village in Ernakulam district and it was constructed by the Portuguese in the year 1614. This structure is definitely a perfect example of Kerala architecture along with Western construction technologies.

Chennamangalam Synagogue, ErnakulamYou can find an altar that is certainly very eye-catching and is definitely an example of complicated artwork. The roof of the Chennamangalam synagogue has reached a great height and the craftsmen might have taken serious effort to position it. The roof of the synagogue is additionally supported by wooden beams and it is decorated with several designs. One more appealing aspect of this synagogue is a wooden balcony which has superbly carved railings. The staircase is made from wooden and is spiral in structure. It leads to the balcony specifically meant for women.

In recent times, with the help of the Archaeological Department and money sanctioned from Kerala Tourism Department, Chennamangalam Synagogue was renovated without destroying the original glory. The renovation work was finished in the year 2005. Chennamangalam Synagogue is protected monument under the Archaeological department of Kerala.
