Peermede in IdukkiPeermede is one of the lovely hill stations of Kerala. Peermede is situated 915 meters above sea level. Peermede is located at a distance of 40 Km from Kumily and 76 Km from Kottayam on the way to Thekkady. The name is sometimes related to the Sufi saint, Peer Mohammed, or means hill of the Peer.  Peermede is a beautiful hill station situated in the Western Ghats is popular for its green landscape. The landscape of this place includes breathtaking waterfalls, sprawling gardens of tea, coffee, cardamom, rubber and eucalyptus lying side by side along with natural grasslands and pine forests.Peermede is a perfect retreat in the Western Ghats and a choice break for tourists en route to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, one of the largest wildlife reserves in India. The summer palace of Rajas of erstwhile Travancore is today a main monument at this place. Peeremede including its surroundings are right spot for trekking, cycling as well as horse riding. Kuttikanam a location for adventure tourism and trekking is located at a distance of 3 km from Peeremede. The region is extremely fertile and the region had until recently flourishing plantations of coffee, tea, cardamon as well as coconut. The tribes in Peermade are a window to a unique tribal heritage. The Orali, Malapandaram and Malayarayan tribes live in the hills of Peermede. The main tribes in Peermede is Plakkathadam which is also known for its trekking trails. Tourist places near Peermede Thrissanku Hills (4 Km): Thrissanku Hills which is just 4 km away. The rolling hills, the beautiful landscape as well as the soft breeze make this place a perfect place for long walks. The hills provide a spectacular view of sunrise as well as sunset. Peeru Hills (4 Km): This peaceful hill station is a preferred location of trekkers as well as picnickers. The hill is named after Peer Mohammed, the Sufi saint, who lived here his last days. The burial chamber of this saint, the summer palace of royal family as well as the residence of Diwan located nearby are few places to visit. Grampi (5 Km): Grampi can also be referred to as Parunthupara (eagle rock) for the reason that panoramic scene from its peeks. Rocky plains, lush hillsides, forests, trekking trails as well as picturesque view enhance attraction to this getaway. The path to Grampi is flanked by continuous stretches of cardamom, tea as well as coffee plantations.
