Hill Palace Museum, Ernakulam


Hill Palace Museum is one of the largest archaeological museums in Kerala located near Tripunithura at the distance of 12 Km from Ernakulam town in Central Kerala. Hill Palace Museum is regarded as Kerala's first heritage museum famous for royal collections of erstwhile Maharaja of Kochi.

Hill Palace Museum, ErnakulamThe complex of Hill Palace Museum has an archaeological museum, a heritage museum, a deer park, a pre-historic park and a park for children. The land surrounding the Hill Palace Museum has very rare Medicinal Plants.

The Hill Palace was the formal residence of Kochi royal family a long time ago, and at present it is the most important archaeological museum in Kerala. Constructed in the year 1865, the Hill Palace complex consists of 49 buildings in traditional architectural style of Kerala, spread more than 52 acres of fantastically landscaped terraced land that has a deer park and amenities for riding the horse. Many varieties of flora as well as rare medicinal plants grow at this place. You can see the oil-paintings, murals, sculptures in stone and manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, things belonging to the Kochi royal family as well as royal furnishings including the Kings throne in the Hill Palace Museum.

Apart from the above items, The Hill Palace also houses are more than 200 old items of pottery as well as ceramic vases from Japan and China, Kudakkallu (tomb stone), Thoppikkallu (hood stone), menhirs, granite, laterite memorials, rock-cut weapons belonging to the Stone Age, wooden temple designs, plaster cast designs of objects during the times of Mohenjodaro and Harappa of the Indus Valley Civilisation. You can also see a gallery of latest art.
