Wayanad Wildlife SanctuaryWayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the important travel destinations of Kerala, especially for the nature lovers. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second biggest animal sanctuary of Kerala located in Wayanad.  Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1973 and it is spread over 345 Sq Km. The sanctuary is rich in wild life and lush green forests enhances the beauty of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is divided into two disconnected regions generally known as the Upper Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in the north & Lower Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in the south. The area amid both regions was initially a forest area, although it has become dominated mainly by plantations.The Wildlife Sanctuary surrounded by protected zone of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka state towards northeast, and Mudumalai of Tamilnadu towards the southeast. Project Elephant was introduced in the year 1991-92. The wildlife sanctuary comes under Protect Elephant and you may notice group of elephants roaming within the area. The animals of Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary include Tigers, Panthers, Elephants, Monkeys, Wild Dogs, Bisons, Deer, Bears, different types of snakes and Monitor lizards. The sanctuary houses various types of birds like Cuckoos, Peacocks, Babblers, Owls, Woodpeckers and Jungle Fowls. Peacocks and Peafowl tend to be very common in the area. The flora of Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary includes Rosewood, Ven Teak, Vengal, Chadachi, Mazhukanjiram, Bamboos. Climate: Southwest monsoon showers the area from June to September. March, April and May are the summer season of the year. The perfect time to go to Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is from June to October.
