Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, KannurAralam Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the important tourist destinations of the Northern Kerala. The sanctuary is located at a distance of 50 Km from Thalassery and 66 Km from Kannur.  Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1984 by separating regions from the Odanthode Malavaram of Thalassery special division which was formerly a private forest. It is located in the northernmost protected area of Kerala state in Kannur district.The area of Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary falls in Aralam, Kelakam and Kottiyoor revenue villages and is situated in the Northwest slopes of Western Ghats adjacent to the forests of Kodagu (Coorg) district of Karnataka state. Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at an altitude ranging between 50 meters and 1145 meters. The highest peak is Katti Betta, which is 1145 meters high above sea level. The sanctuary covers an area of about 55 square km. Flora and Fauna of Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary The major parts of the forest are coast tropical evergreen forest and west coast semi evergreen forests. There are about 490 hectares of teak as well as eucalyptus plantations within the forest area. The major wildlife of Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary include Elephant, Bison, Sambar, Deer, Boar, Sloth Bear, Leopard, Jungle Cat and different types of squirrel.
